About

I wanted to set this site up because I found getting going with breastfeeding so tricky and demoralising. Aside from proper practical help and support the biggest thing that got me through the early days was reading about and talking to other women and their experiences of BFing.

….Oh, so I wasn’t the only person feeling despondent when Baby Thor cluster fed for hours, or had yet another green poo, or didn’t put on enough weight?  And yes, other people cried everyday (sometimes multiple times). Oh, it’s normal to feel like your boobs might explode when your milk comes it? Or that I wasn’t a terrible mum for giving Thor expressed milk in a bottle before he was 2 weeks old? And so on….

Most of this support came online – through forums and chats on Twitter and Facebook. However there wasn’t just one place where I could read about all the difference experiences of BFing. I started to realise that breastfeeding is not a black and white issue. There are so many ways to feed breastmilk to your baby – and non of these ways make you a better or worse mother. We’re all just doing the best we can to muddle through and get that precious substance into our babies.

I feel so sad that we are so harsh on ourselves as mothers and as women, especially when we’ve just grown AN ENTIRE HUMAN BEING in our bodies. I wanted to create a place for women to share their experiences of feeding – to show both the positive and the negative. The things they’ve learned and loved. To encourage openess and honesty and kindness to ourselves and each other and our choices around BFing. I also wanted to create a resource of first hand experiences for mums-to-be and mums who are struggling with breastfeeding to read.

You’re not alone out there, other women have probably gone through the exact same thing. You’re doing an amazing job growing and nurturing a baby. Hopefully this site will comfort, support and perhaps help you through a tricky time. It’ll show you the wonderful things about feeding and the fun parts too.

UPDATE I’m pleased to announce I will be training as a Peer Supporter in a few months time (Spring 2013!)
